The Best Time to Book Your Newborn Photos in Waco, TX (And Why Timing Matters)
The Best Time to Book Your Newborn Photos in Waco, TX (And Why Timing Matters)
If you're pregnant and starting to think about newborn photos, you might be wondering: when do I actually book this? Between doctor appointments, nursery prep, and the general chaos of the third trimester, newborn photography timing is easy to put off but it's one of the few things in this season that actually benefits from planning ahead.
Here's what you need to know.
The Ideal Window: 5 to 14 Days
Most newborn photographers, myself included, recommend scheduling your session when your baby is between **5 and 14 days old**. There's a reason for this window: newborns in this stage are still curled up, sleepy, and easy to pose into those soft, snuggly shots everyone loves. After about two weeks, babies start to stretch out, become more alert, and are much harder to settle into deep sleep for photos.
That doesn't mean older newborns can't have beautiful photos they absolutely can but the classic curled-up, deep-sleep poses are easiest to capture in that first couple of weeks.
Why You Should Book While You're Still Pregnant
Here's the part that surprises a lot of first-time parents: **you book your newborn session before your baby arrives, not after.** Since we're working with a due date instead of a birthdate, I hold a flexible spot on my calendar around your estimated due date, and we finalize the exact day once your baby is born.
To reserve your date, I just need:
- Your estimated due date
- Any specific style or props you're dreaming of for the session
Booking early ideally in your second trimester means you're not scrambling to find availability during the newborn haze, and it guarantees you a spot during that sleepy newborn window.
What If Baby Comes Early or Late?
Babies rarely follow the schedule we plan for them, and that's completely normal. Because I know timing is unpredictable, I build flexibility into every booking. If your little one arrives earlier or later than expected, we simply adjust your session date to land within that ideal 5-to-14-day window no stress, no rebooking fees, no rigid deadlines.
Coordinating Around Waco-Area Hospitals
I work with families delivering at Central Texas hospitals and birth centers, including **Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Hillcrest** and **Ascension Providence** in Waco. Since I utilize home studio, instead of meeting you at the hospital, knowing where you're delivering isn’t necessary but it can help me plan around discharge timing and any additional recovery needs, so your session lands at the right moment for both you and your baby.
Whether you're in Waco, Lorena, Hewitt, Woodway, China Spring, or Robinson, I want your photography experience to feel just as easy as everything else should feel in those first precious days.
